On Friday, March 6, a delegation led by Raymonde Gagné, Speaker of the Canadian Senate, visited Hiroshima and held talks with Shigeru Ashitani, President of the Hiroshima Canada Association, and Yuko Ishida, President of Hiroshima Canada and Honorary Consul of Canada in Hiroshima.
President Gagné praised Hiroshima’s efforts to strengthen relations between Canada and Japan and expressed her desire to further deepen the bond of trust leading up to the 100th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations in 2028.
Furthermore, as Gagné previously served as president of St. Boniface University, she and President Ishida exchanged views on many shared topics, such as university education and the role of universities in the community, making for a fruitful meeting.
