On November 8th, a welcome tea ceremony for exchange students was held at Shukkeien Garden, a famous scenic spot in Hiroshima City. This event is held annually with the aim of allowing exchange students to experience traditional Japanese culture and deepen their understanding of Japanese history and lifestyle.

On the day of the event, exchange students took on the challenge of experiencing the tea ceremony dressed in traditional kimono amidst the Japanese garden where the autumn leaves were just beginning to change color. For the tea gathering, an instructor from the Urasenke Tea School provided for careful guidance on the etiquette and spirit of the tea ceremony. Though initially hesitant with the unfamiliar movements, the students approached the experience seriously. In the end, their delighted smiles left a lasting impression.

This tea ceremony was hosted by the Intercultural Communication Group “VIVA”, a newly established student volunteer group this academic year, which provided explanations and support in English, helping create a peaceful environment for international students. The International Education and Exchange Center will continue to offer opportunities connecting Japanese culture and international exchange, increasing chances for students to learn from each other and deepen mutual understanding.
