On April 12, Japanese students from the intercultural exchange group, “VIVA,” visited Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park with 20 Short Term Exchange Program (STEP) students from 8 countries and regions (France, Germany, Poland, Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, Taiwan, and Korea).
This was part of the “Welcome Peace Park Tour,” an intercultural activity aimed at informing international students about the history and peace of Hiroshima.
First, they visited Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum and listened to a lecture about the A-bomb experience.
The international students also toured the Peace Memorial Museum with an audio guide provided in their native languages. They looked intently at the exhibits showing the reality of the damage caused by the atomic bombings.

After the tour, the students walked through Peace Memorial Park with Peace Volunteer Guides. By listening to detailed explanations of the cenotaphs and background, the students were able to further deepen their understanding. The international students also learned that the paper cranes collected in Hiroshima are reused as recycled paper.
The “Welcome Peace Park Tour” was an invaluable experience for all the students to learn about the history of Hiroshima and importance of world peace.
