The 8th Globalization Staff Development (SD) Seminar—Fostering a Global Mindset

12/18/2024

On Friday, December 6, the 8th Globalization SD Seminar was held. In order to attempt to foster a global mindset among the University's staff, this training program is attended annually by staff from various departments and provides information and knowledge on how to develop cross-cultural adaptability from various perspectives. It also is used to develop a thinking culture among the staff that can be used for brain-storming new ideas.

Eighteen staff members participated this year. The lecturer was Professor Harada, Director of the Center for International Education Exchange. In the first half of the lecture, Professor Harada introduced the knowledge and abilities to survive in the global era, sharing his personal experiences and opinions.

The second half of the session was a group discussion. As a mind-opener, he introduced a case study of a coffee chain that had created a “special feeling” and broadened its customer base by skillfully utilizing its product offerings.

The theme of the group discussion was “Recruiting Strategies to Increase the Number of International Students.” The participants were divided into five groups consisting of staff members from different departments. They were asked to initially discuss the ideas and perspectives that would create a “special feeling” about the university which could be used to broaden its student intake. Thereafter, each group was asked to think about how to effectively use that “special feeling” to attract more international students to the university. Each group proposed perspectives and ideas that the Center for International Educational Exchange alone could not have come up with, making this a very meaningful SD training program. The Center for International Education Exchange hopes to continue to provide these Globalization SD Seminars to foster global mindsets among the university staff.
